Some pet policies include hydrotherapy for an eligible accident or illness. Coverage depends on your policy, the condition, who provides treatment and the required veterinary involvement.
Check the actual provider before booking
A veterinary referral does not guarantee coverage. We have not verified IDPWC’s eligibility under any insurer’s provider rules. Ask your insurer to confirm the proposed IDPWC service and provider in writing before booking or buying a package. The insurers below are information sources, not verified IDPWC partners or accepted-insurer arrangements.
These are short summaries of official documents. Your issued policy and the insurer’s written decision take priority. Limits and exclusions can differ by plan and policy version.
Trupanion
Hydrotherapy is listed in the optional Recovery and Complementary Care rider. Confirm that your policy already includes the rider.
Provider requirement: The posted Canadian sample requires a licensed veterinarian, or an authorized staff member under the veterinarian’s Direct Supervision. The definition requires the vet to be readily available on the premises.
Check your policy: Rider eligibility, deductible, co-insurance, waiting periods and exclusions apply. The sample limits adding this rider to the first 30 days after enrolment.
Petsecure
Hydrotherapy is an alternative therapy for an insured accident or illness.
Provider requirement: Treatment must be performed or personally authorized by the veterinarian, who must sign the claim form. Ask the insurer to confirm the actual service and provider.
Check your policy: A separate annual alternative-therapy allowance applies. Check your Schedule of Maximum Amounts, rather than assuming the main accident or illness limit applies.
OVMA Pet Health Insurance
Alternative therapies may be covered for an insured accident or illness.
Provider requirement: The policy requires treatment to be performed or personally authorized by the veterinarian, with a vet-signed claim form.
Check your policy: Check the separate annual alternative-therapy allowance in your Schedule of Maximum Amounts, including with Unlimited+ coverage.
Pets Plus Us
The reviewed Accident & Illness wording includes prescribed hydrotherapy for an eligible accident or illness. Accident-only cover restricts the benefit to eligible accidents.
Provider requirement: The policy requires licensed-veterinarian performance or veterinary supervision; general treatment rules also specify vet or vet-tech performance or direct supervision. Pre-approval is recommended by the insurer.
Check your policy: Your selected annual limit, deductible and co-insurance apply. Confirm the exact plan and treatment requirements before booking.
Furkin
Hydrotherapy for an eligible accident or illness is included in the reviewed policy.
Provider requirement: Treatment must be provided by a licensed veterinarian or under Direct Supervision. The policy’s definition requires the veterinarian to be in the same building.
Check your policy: The reviewed July 2026 policy has a C$20,000 total annual limit, subject to deductible, co-insurance, waiting periods and exclusions. Confirm your issued terms.
Spot Canada
The posted Canadian sample includes vet-prescribed, vet-directed hydrotherapy. Accident-only cover restricts alternative therapy to eligible accidents.
Provider requirement: The general treatment rule requires a veterinarian, veterinary technician, or someone under their direct supervision.
Check your policy: Alternative and behavioural therapies share a C$1,000 annual sublimit under Accident & Illness plans, within the overall annual limit. Deductible, co-insurance and exclusions apply.
Fetch Canada
The Canadian FAQ includes physical therapy, including hydrotherapy, in accident-and-illness coverage when administered by a vet.
Provider requirement: Confirm pool-based sessions and non-vet provider eligibility directly with Fetch. The FAQ does not establish that a referral alone makes an IDPWC session eligible.
Check your policy: Check the exact limits, waiting periods and requirements in your issued Canadian policy. The Canadian sample was not retrievable for this review, and official pages differed on some waiting-period details.
